Is Aircraft Wake Turbulence a Problem?
Gone are those days when only two to three aircrafts used to fly in an area at a time. Today the number of aircrafts is really very high. I must tell you that the following aircrafts moves at a distance with the leading aircraft. The distance should be large enough such that the trailing vortices can really dissipate out.
All these distances are being controlled by the ATC (air traffic control). As the number of the aircraft is going on increasing the job of the ATC is also going on increasing. The new big airbus A380 has really caught the eyes of all of us because of the problem it is facing in the service entry.
However the problem is related to the production technology but another one is really fundamental. I must say that the large number of the passenger who travels on the aircraft is really one thing which cannot be forgotten.
However, apart from the facility to large number of people who board on this plane, these big planes have also led to the threat of providing wider separation for the following aircrafts. The aircrafts which follow these aircrafts really have to be separated by the larger distances and I must tell you that the ATC has to provide a larger separation when these big planes pass by so that they are safe from the problems like wake turbulence. Hence I must really say that the wake turbulence is really a problem and the seriousness of this problem increases when the planes are big.
After a closer look I must tell you that the problematic phenomenon is not the turbulence at all. In fact the turbulence in the wake helps to fight with the problem. This confusion in the common terminology leads to the two goals. The first one is the aerodynamic phenomenon limiting the increase in the air traffic capacity is to be explained and the second one is the definition of the turbulence.
I must tell you that turbulence is a physics phenomenon which is still unsolved. If you will search on the Google about the turbulence then I must tell you that you will see 1258 hits all trying to explain the turbulence to you. But what really is the turbulence? You will definitely find out that you will still lack the exact definition to this physics problem.
The conclusion is quiet simple and straight forward. And that is that the aircrafts trailing vortex problem is still unsolved. The basic generation of the vortex generation is really of major concern and I must tell you that this is really one of the very big problems and sadly it is yet to be solved.
